Firle Place

Firle Place, the home of the Gage family for over 500 years, lies in a cleft in the South Downs near Lewes. Surrounded by extensive park and set against a background of hanging woodland.

The ‘unEnglish’ looking house is built of pale stone brought from Caen in Normandy. Although Firle looks like an eighteenth century house it conceals portions of a much older building.

The imposing Great Hall of the house leads into a number of stately rooms full of beautiful paintings, ornaments, china, furniture and treasures collected by the Gage family through the ages.
